according to a bloomberg report today, apple is expected to unveil three brand-new ai-powered photo-editing features for ios 27 at the wwdc26 global developers conference, which kicks off on june 8, with a strong focus on intelligent image processing. the revamped photos app will introduce an “apple intelligence tools” menu, with the core feature dubbed “extend.”
when editing close-up shots of landmark buildings and other subjects, this feature can automatically generate additional image content beyond the original frame, intelligently filling in the surrounding scenery—users can simply drag the edges of the photo to freely control the extent of the expansion. in addition, apple has also introduced two practical tools: “enhance,” which automatically optimizes image quality by intelligently adjusting lighting and color rendition, and “reframe,” designed specifically for landscape photos, allowing users to freely change the viewing angle after capture to enhance the immersive quality of spatial imagery.
however, according to internal testing data, the development of these new features has not been entirely smooth. in particular, the current performance of the “extend” and “reframe” tools remains unstable, and apple is currently evaluating the progress of optimizing the underlying models. if the results fall short of expectations, these two features may be delayed or scaled back. nonetheless, apple’s strategic intent in the ai-powered image-editing space is already quite clear: to help users quickly optimize, expand, and reframe their photos in just a matter of seconds.
at present, it remains uncertain which features will actually debut in the official release of ios 27; however, it is foreseeable that apple is striving to further enhance the practicality and creative freedom of its photos app by deeply integrating ai capabilities. more details are expected to be revealed at wwdc26.
