
on monday, local time, openai announced the establishment of a new company called “openai deployment company,” with an initial investment exceeding us$4 billion (approximately rmb 27.2 billion), aimed at helping various organizations build and deploy ai systems. at the same time, openai will also acquire the ai consulting firm tomoro to rapidly expand its new business segment.
following widespread consumer acceptance of its early models, openai is actively pursuing corporate partnerships and contracts, focusing on deepening its presence in the commercial sector and driving large-scale deployment of its ai technologies. this newly formed joint venture will be majority-owned and operated by openai. notably, competitor anthropic has achieved significant success in enterprise-level ai deployment, with its claude series models being rapidly adopted by numerous companies.
openai stated that the new company will dispatch cutting-edge ai implementation engineers to various organizations, working closely with enterprise teams to identify application scenarios where ai can deliver maximum value. the acquisition of tomoro will bring approximately 150 seasoned ai engineers and “implementation specialists” into the new business unit in one go. according to tomoro’s official website, the company was co-founded with openai in 2023, serving clients such as mattel, red bull, tesco, and virgin atlantic airways.
last week, reuters reported that openai and anthropic, each partnering with private equity firms to establish joint ventures, are in talks to acquire several service providers offering ai implementation solutions for enterprises. openai indicated that this ai implementation team is part of a multi-year collaboration agreement reached with 19 institutions, led by tpg, with advent international, bain capital, and brookfield serving as co‑founding lead partners. with the establishment of this new company, openai is accelerating its expansion in the enterprise ai services market.
